Former Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq praised fast bowler Abbas Afridi for his “good performances” over the last two seasons.
Afridi’s strong wicket-taking abilities earned him a call-up to the Pakistan T20I team for the five-match series against New Zealand in January 2024, where he made his international debut.
In the three games he played, the 22-year-old took five wickets at an average of 16.20 and an economy rate of nine.
His good form continued in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he was part of the Multan Sultans squad that lost in the final.
Afridi featured in nine matches and claimed 13 wickets at an average of 19.07 and an economy rate of 8.55.
Misbah conceded that the young speedster has been very impressive and is keen to see him maintain his momentum going forward.
“Abbas Afridi has been delivering good performances for the last two seasons,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion.
In Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand in April 2024, Afridi snapped up five wickets in three games at an average of 14.20 and an economy rate of 8.87.
He is now playing in the three-match T20I series against Ireland and registered figures of 2-36 off 3.5 overs in the first game, which Pakistan lost by five wickets.
Following the Ireland series, Pakistan will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
