Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed said he constantly told left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir to come back and play for the national team again.
The 32-year-old retired from international cricket in December 2020, but recently reversed that decision to make himself available for selection ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.
Sarfaraz knew that the 140 kph fast bowler was good enough to get into the team despite being away from international cricket for a few years and is glad that Amir finally decided to return.
“I always told Amir that you should play cricket for Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Amir recently played alongside Sarfaraz Ahmed for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and took 10 wickets in nine matches at an average of 28.60 and an economy rate of 8.41.
As for Sarfaraz, he mustered 22 runs in six games at an average of 5.50 and a strike-rate of 75.86.
Amir made his international comeback in Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand and picked up three wickets in four games at an average of 28.66 and an economy rate of 8.32.
Next up for Pakistan will be a three-match T20I series against Ireland from May 10 to 14.
After that, they will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
