Pakistan left-arm pace bowler Mohammad Amir believes he can “contribute greatly to the team” since his “fitness level is much better than it was in 2019.”

Amir noted that he worked hard on becoming fitter so that he can have a greater impact and be a more useful asset.

The 32-year-old reversed his decision to retire from international cricket after the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and subsequently made his return in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, where he picked up three wickets in four games at an average of 28.66 and an economy rate of 8.32.

“I think my fitness level is much better than it was in 2019 because I’m feeling fitter than I ever did in recent years. If you are not fit, you cannot express yourself [on] the ground, no matter how many skills you have. I believe with the fitness level I have, I can contribute greatly to the team,” Amir was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match T20I series against Ireland from May 10 to 14.

After that, they will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
