Azam Khan, the Pakistan big-hitting wicketkeeper, acknowledged that he has to remain consistent if he wants to have any hope of continuing to be picked in the national team.

Azam has represented his country in eight T20Is to date, but only mustered 29 runs at an average of 4.83 and a strike-rate of 90.62.

The 25-year-old had a solid showing in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he accumulated 226 runs in 12 matches for Islamabad United, which included a top score of 75, at an average of 25.11 and a strike-rate of 171.21.

He was supposed to play in Pakistan’s recent five-match T20I series against New Zealand, but missed it due to a grade one tear in his right calf muscle.

“My aim is to keep performing consistently,” Azam was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

The big-hitting batsman has been picked in Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland from May 10 to 14 and four-match T20I series against England from May 22 to May 30.
