Mohammad Amir said fellow Pakistan left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi played a key role in his decision to return to international cricket.
Amir ended his Pakistan career in December 2020, but opted to make a comeback after the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he represented the Quetta Gladiators.
The 32-year-old noted that Afridi won his trust and he is now ready to lead the men in green to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.
“The credit [for bringing me back] goes to the management of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Shaheen [Afridi], they brought me back with trust, and there is some sort of pressure of fulfilling that promise,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Amir recently featured in Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand and took three wickets in four games at an average of 28.66 and an economy rate of 8.32.
As for Afridi, he finished with eight wickets in four matches at an average of 10 and an economy rate of 7.38.
Next up for Pakistan will be a three-match T20I series against Ireland from May 10 to 14.
