Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir said the incident regarding the termination of fast bowler Haris Rauf’s central contract should have been “resolved behind closed doors.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced their decision to cancel Rauf’s contract just a couple of days before the start of the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

It stemmed from the fact that the 30-year-old withdrew from Pakistan’s three-match Test series against Australia, which took place from December 2023 to January 2024.

Amir felt it was wrong of the board to disclose the issue and believes both parties should have discussed it away from the public eye.

“The Haris Rauf contract issue would have been better resolved behind closed doors. The matters between players and boards should not be discussed publicly,” he told Geo News.

Rauf recently played for the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and claimed two wickets in four matches at an average of 66 and an economy rate of 9.42.

His campaign came to a premature end when he suffered a dislocated shoulder, which will take four to six weeks to heal.

As for Amir, he represented the Quetta Gladiators in PSL 9 and picked up 10 wickets in nine games at an average of 28.60 and an economy rate of 8.41.

Following PSL 9, Amir reversed his decision to retire from international cricket and subsequently made his comeback in Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand, where he picked up three wickets in four games at an average of 28.66 and an economy rate of 8.32.

Rauf, meanwhile, was not considered for selection as he was still recovering from his injury.

The series between Pakistan and New Zealand ended as a 2-2 draw.
