Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja said he considers himself “very lucky” to be able to watch limited overs captain Babar Azam batting as he is “world-class.”
Ramiz noted that he has seen “many great Pakistan batters” during his time as a commentator, but feels Azam is on a different level.
His praise for the 29-year-old comes after Azam captained the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and finished as the top run-scorer with 569 runs in 11 games, which included a century and five fifties, at an average of 56.90 and a strike-rate of 142.60.
“As a commentator, I am very lucky to watch King Babar. I have seen many great Pakistan batters, but he is world-class,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Zalmi managed to reach the playoffs before having their campaign ended when they lost to the Multan Sultans in the Qualifier and Islamabad United in Eliminator 2.
Azam recently captained Pakistan in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand and scored 125 runs in five games, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 31.25 and a strike-rate of 138.88.
The series ultimately finished as a 2-2 draw.
