Selection committee member Abdul Razzaq said he knew Babar Azam was the best choice as Pakistan captain.
His comments come after Azam returned as limited overs skipper after stepping down as captain in all three formats in November 2023.
Razzaq noted that when he was appointed as a selector, one of his main goals was to “give everyone justice.”
“When I got this job opportunity then one thing we were supposed to do was give everyone justice. So we chose Babar Azam who is the best option. Things are different when you are on TV and when you do actually get the responsibility. So when we came here the best choice we found for captaincy was Babar Azam,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam recently led the men in green in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand and amassed 125 runs in five games, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 31.25 and a strike-rate of 138.88.
Despite the 29-year-old’s efforts with the bat, the series ended as a 2-2 draw.
