Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif believes left-arm spinner Imad Wasim should be picked for the 2024 T20 World Cup in June as he “can contribute significantly to the team.”
His comments come after Imad reversed his decision to retire from international cricket, meaning he is available for selection once again.
Latif also noted that Imad has done well on pitches in the West Indies and since the T20 World Cup will be held in the Caribbean and the United States of America, he should be locked in as one of the spinners selected.
“The World Cup is coming up in the West Indies, and during the Caribbean League, Imad has always performed well on those pitches. He can prove successful once again this time. He is a utility player and can contribute significantly to the team,” he told Cricket Pakistan.
Imad recently played for Islamabad United in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and took 12 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 20.91 and an economy rate of 6.60.
He also did well with the bat, making 126 runs, which included a top score of 59 not out, at an average of 21 and a strike-rate of 128.57.
Islamabad won PSL 9 after beating the Multan Sultans by two wickets in the final.
Imad has been picked for Pakistan’s upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which will be held in Rawalpindi and Lahore from April 18 to 27.
