Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson said Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Wasim Jnr has “amazing hand-eye coordination and power”, and is capable of smashing the ball a long way when batting.
Wasim Jnr is one of the young pace prospects in Pakistan and Watson’s comments suggest there are plans to try and turn the 22-year-old into an all-rounder.
Watson recently coached the Quetta Gladiators in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and worked alongside Wasim Jnr as he played for the team.
“We’ve been talking to Mohammad Wasim Jnr since the first game about being as still as possible. He’s got amazing hand-eye coordination and power, so he just needs to stand still and trust that he can smash it,” the Australian powerhouse was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Wasim Jnr took nine wickets in eight matches for the Gladiators at an average of 33 and an economy rate of 9.90.
He also scored 30 runs at an average of six and a strike-rate of 96.77.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which will take place in Rawalpindi and Lahore from April 18 to 27.
