Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie has highlighted Pakistan left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi’s lethality with the ball, pointing to his ability to generate late swing and reverse swing.

What makes Afridi even more of a threat, in Gillespie’s eyes, is the fact that he hits good lines and lengths.

The 24-year-old, who was recently stripped of the T20I captaincy, is Pakistan’s go-to pace bowler in all three formats and has developed a reputation for getting early wickets with the new ball.

“He swings the ball, and he can swing it quite late. He can get some reverse swing as well. He bowls very disciplined lines, very disciplined lengths,” Gillespie, who is rumoured to become the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team, told PakPassion.

Afridi recently captained the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and snapped up 14 wickets in nine matches at an average of 22.14 and an economy rate of 8.61.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore from April 18 to 27.
