Former Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has urged wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan to find a way to boost his scoring rate.
Misbah noted that with the direction international cricket is headed in, it is imperative that Rizwan start batting faster.
The 31-year-old has been criticised in the past about his strike-rate in T20Is, with his critics saying he wastes too many deliveries.
Since Rizwan is a vital member of the Pakistan team, Misbah wants to see him take the initiative to start scoring his runs quicker.
“Mohammad Rizwan is trying to play a longer innings, but the batting pace required is a bit slower. He will need to increase it,” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
Rizwan recently captained the Multan Sultans in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and finished as the third-highest run-scorer with 407 runs in 12 games, which included four fifties, at an average of 33.91 and a strike-rate of 122.22.
The Sultans made it to their fourth final in a row, but ended up losing to Islamabad United by two wickets.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a five-match T20I series against New Zealand in Rawalpindi and Lahore from April 18 to 27.
