Gautam Gambhir, the former India opening batsman, believes the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami can make life difficult for newly re-appointed Pakistan white-ball captain Babar Azam.

During India’s clash with Pakistan in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, it was Siraj who got Azam out as he clean bowled the 29-year-old.

However, should the two sides meet again, Gambhir feels that all three bowlers will put the Lahore-born batsman’s skills to the test.

“All three bowlers (Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj) can test Babar Azam properly,” he told Star Sports as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Azam recently led the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and finished as the highest run-scorer with 569 runs in 11 matches, which included a century and five fifties, at an average of 56.90 and a strike-rate of 142.60.

The Zalmi made it to the playoffs, but were eliminated after losing to the Multan Sultans in the Qualifier and Islamabad United in Eliminator 2.

Peshawar Zalmi Squad for PSL 9: Babar Azam (captain), Rovman Powell, Saim Ayub, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Asif Ali, Mohammad Haris, Aamer Jamal, Naveen-ul-Haq, Khurram Shahzad, Salman Irshad, Arif Yaqoob, Umair Afridi, Dan Mousley, Haseebullah Khan, Mohammad Zeeshan, Mehran Mumtaz, Luke Wood, Sufiyan Muqeem, Waqar Salamkheil, Arshad Iqbal, Gus Atkinson, Shamar Joseph
