West Indies limited overs head coach Daren Sammy believes left-arm spinner Mehran Mumtaz and big-hitting batsmen Saim Ayub and Mohammad Haris “are the future” of Pakistan cricket.
His comments come after he worked with all three players as head coach of the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Ayub had a spectacular campaign with the bat, amassing 345 runs in 11 matches, which included two fifties, at an average of 31.36 and a strike-rate of 157.53.
Mumtaz did well with the ball, taking five wickets in five games at an average of 25.20 and an economy rate of 6.63.
Haris, meanwhile, would have liked to have done better, but still showed flashes of brilliance in PSL 9 as he made 142 runs in 10 matches at an average of 15.77 and a strike-rate of 132.71.
“Mehran Mumtaz, Mohammad Haris and Saim Ayub are the future,” Sammy was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
The Zalmi managed to make it to the playoffs in PSL 9, but saw their campaign come to an end after they lost to the Multan Sultans in the Qualifier and Islamabad United in Eliminator 2.
