Pakistan pace icon Wasim Akram called out fellow left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi for not bowling well in the death overs during the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Afridi, who is Pakistan’s T20I captain, was in charge of the Lahore Qalandars in PSL 9 and took 14 wickets in nine matches at an average of 22.14 and an economy rate of 8.61.
Despite taking plenty of wickets, Wasim urged the 23-year-old to get his act together when bowling in the final overs of an innings.
“I think in this PSL, he [was] not able to bowl well in the death overs,” the Sultan of Swing said on The Pavilion as quoted by NDTV.
Wasim also called out Afridi for bowling half volleys with the new ball instead of doing what he is known for – getting breakthroughs.
“Even with the new ball, we all were watching it together, he was bowling half volleys,” he said.
The Qalandars were the defending champions coming into PSL 9, but they had a season to forget as they only managed to win one out of the 10 games they played.
