Former Pakistan team director and interim head coach Mohammad Hafeez wants mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed included in the team for the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.
Abrar has already made his presence felt in Test cricket, having taken 38 wickets in six matches at an average of 31.07.
Most recently, the 25-year-old represented the Quetta Gladiators in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and had an outstanding campaign as he was the third-highest wicket-taker with 16 wickets in 10 games at an average of 19.56 and an economy rate of 7.82.
Given how well he has done in limited overs cricket at the domestic level, Hafeez conceded he is surprised Abrar has never played a T20I for Pakistan.
With a few T20I series coming up ahead of the T20 World Cup, Hafeez feels the national selectors should consider giving Abrar a chance to show what he can do in the shortest format.
“Abrar is not a big turner of the ball which creates his mystery. I was surprised Abrar played Test cricket but was never included in [a] T20 for Pakistan. Abrar should be considered to play [for the] 2024 T20 World Cup,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.
