Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram has blasted top order batsman Abdullah Shafique for his celebration after taking a catch, saying he “should work in the drama industry rather than cricket.”
Wasim’s comments came after Shafique took a catch while playing for the Lahore Qalandars in their match against Islamabad United in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Upon completing the catch, the 24-year-old proceeded to place his finger over his lips – a gesture that is seen as telling someone to be quiet.
Sharp in the slips! 👏

The Sultan of Swing was not at all amused with Shafique’s antics, pointing out that during Pakistan’s three-match Test series against Australia, he dropped numerous catches.
“No doubt, great catch but who is responsible for dropping 36 catches in Australia’s Test series? Who will answer for that? Abdullah should work in the drama industry rather than cricket,” Wasim was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
In PSL 9, Shafique scored 159 runs in five matches, which included two fifties, at an average of 53 and a strike-rate of 135.89.
The Qalandars were the defending champions going into the competition, but finished in last place on the points table after only winning one match out of the 10 they played.
