Former Pakistan team director and interim head coach Mohammad Hafeez has questioned whether leg-spinner Usama Mir can’t handle the pressure when playing international cricket.
Mir recently had a fantastic campaign for the Multan Sultans in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he was the highest wicket-taker with 24 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 15.87 and an economy rate of 8.13.
While Hafeez said there is no denying the 28-year-old from Sialkot has plenty of talent, he noted that playing in the PSL and for Pakistan are completely different.
“The pressure is different in PSL and while representing Pakistan. Usama is a very good leg-spinner who gets [an] advantage for his height. However, perhaps he is unable to tackle pressure while playing for Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Sultans made it to the final in PSL 9, but ended up losing to Islamabad United by two wickets.
