Pakistan T20I captain Shaheen Shah Afridi said he has learned a lot from former swing bowling prodigy Mohammad Amir.
Amir was once touted as the next big thing in Pakistan cricket as he burst on the scene and had an immediate impact by taking plenty of wickets.
However, his flourishing international career came to an abrupt halt when he was indicted in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal that shocked the entire cricketing community.
Even though the 31-year-old managed to make a comeback in 2016, he failed to have the same amount of success and ended up retiring from international cricket in December 2020.
Since then, he has featured in numerous T20 leagues around the world, including the International League T20 (ILT20), where he played alongside Afridi for the Desert Vipers.
Knowing how good of a bowler Amir is, Afridi took the opportunity to pick his brains and received advice that he will apply to his own game.
“I have learned from him a lot,” the 23-year-old was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
Afridi recently played for Pakistan in their three-match Test series against Australia and claimed eight wickets in two games at an average of 41.62.
He then made his debut as T20I captain in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand and picked up nine wickets at an average of 19.22 and an economy rate of 8.94.
Currently, Afridi is leading the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), while Amir is playing for the Quetta Gladiators.
