Former Pakistan big-hitting batsman Imran Nazir believes Babar Azam is “the world’s best player” despite not being in the best form over the last few months.
Azam has struggled to score runs consistently and convert his strong starts into big scores.
In the recent three-match Test series against Australia, the 29-year-old was restricted to 126 runs at an average of 21.
He then went on to make 213 runs, which included three fifties, at an average of 42.60 and a strike-rate of 142 in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand.
Considering how hard the Lahore native works, along with his exceptional batting technique, Nazir doesn’t see anything stopping Azam from getting back to his dominant best in the near future.
“He is the world’s best player, and I believe that in Pakistan, Babar is the player who, in terms of technique, as a cricketer, and as a personality embodies what it means to be a cricketer,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam is now in action in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he is captaining the Peshawar Zalmi.
In the five matches he has played, he has accumulated 330 runs in five matches, which includes a century and two fifties, at an average of 82.50 and a strike-rate of 151.37.
