Legendary Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi believes the national team will benefit by having one captain in all three formats and no vice-captains at all as it will “give a clear message to all players who is in charge.”

Until the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, star batsman Babar Azam was leading the men in green in all forms of the game.

However, he ended up resigning from the leadership role after the tournament and Pakistan have adopted a split captaincy, with Shan Masood leading the Test side and Shaheen Shah Afridi taking charge of the T20I team.

In Afridi’s opinion, he feels this system won’t work and reiterated the need to have a solitary captain across all three formats.

“The PCB must have one captain for all formats and there is no need to have a vice-captain. This will give a clear message to all players who is in charge,” he was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The Pakistan team haven’t been in great form lately as they were beaten 3-0 in their Test series against Australia and 4-1 in their T20I series against New Zealand.

Many of the national players are now involved in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which began on February 17.
