Former Pakistan big-hitter Imran Nazir has lashed out at Babar Azam’s critics, saying they should “understand cricket first” before attacking the star batsman.
Azam has been going through a rough patch for the past few months, which has really hurt the men in green as they rely on him to score runs in all three formats.
In the recent three-match Test series against Australia, he was only able to score 126 runs at an average of 21.
However, the 29-year-old showed glimpses of getting back to his best in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand as he amassed 213 runs, which included three fifties, at an average of 42.60 and a strike-rate of 142.
“For those who criticise Babar Azam, I would say, at least understand cricket first,” Nazir was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam is now captaining the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has posted scores of 68, 72 and 31 in his first three matches.
