Pakistan T20I captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has said he will speak to fellow left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir to find out whether he has any intention of coming out of retirement and playing for his country again.

Amir retired from international cricket in December 2020 and even though he suggested there was a possibility of him returning on a couple of occasions, he seems to have shut the door on an international comeback now.

After having played alongside the 31-year-old for the Desert Vipers in the International League T20 (ILT20), Afridi is keen to convince him to return to the Pakistan team.

“I will talk to Mohammad Amir if he’s available to come back for Pakistan once again. Amir and I bowled together after almost 5 years. It was a very good experience to bowl with him, our partnership was great,” he said during an X Space session as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Afridi recently played for Pakistan in their three-match Test series against Australia and picked up eight wickets in two games at an average of 41.62.

He then led the men in green in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand and claimed nine wickets at an average of 19.22 and an economy rate of 8.94.

Currently, Afridi is captaining the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), while Amir is representing the Quetta Gladiators.
