Other players deserve praise too, Harbhajan Singh admits all the attention is on one Pakistan cricketer

Harbhajan Singh said other Pakistan players other than Babar Azam deserve praise too

Harbhajan Singh: “Babar is a good player, but alongside him, there are other talented players in the team as well. It’s a common tendency in both of our countries that we often praise one player extensively, sometimes overlooking the contributions of other players”

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that is is a “common tendency” for people to only praise Pakistan batsman Babar Azam and overlook the contributions of other performers in the team.

He noted that India have the same problem when it comes to batting sensation Virat Kohli, and conceded that it’s unfair.

Harbhajan pointed out that cricket is a team game and the attention should be placed on those who are doing well and helping lead the team to victory.

“Babar is a good player, but alongside him, there are other talented players in the team as well. It’s a common tendency in both of our countries that we often praise one player extensively, sometimes overlooking the contributions of other players,” he told Cricket Pakistan.

“While Virat Kohli is often praised, similarly, there’s much talk about Babar. However, teams don’t win solely because of one player; they win when the entire team performs well.

“The other players in the team also need recognition because, ultimately, it’s the collective effort of the team that makes it strong.”

Azam recently played in Pakistan’s three-match Test series against Australia and scored 126 runs at an average of 21.

He then featured in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand and amassed 213 runs, which included three fifties, at an average of 42.60 and a strike-rate of 142.

Currently, the 29-year-old is captaining the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has made scores of 68 and 72 in the first two matches against the Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings respectively.
