Pakistan power-hitter Fakhar Zaman has admitted that he feels lucky to be in the playing XI in T20Is as the men in green have a number of gifted players, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Saim Ayub.
His comments come after he batted at number four in the recent five-match T20I series against New Zealand, even though he normally opens the batting in domestic cricket and T20 leagues.
With Rizwan and Ayub having become the new opening pair and Azam batting at number three, Zaman reiterated that he is glad to be playing for his country in the shortest format as the selectors and team management could have opted for someone else instead of him.
“I consider myself fortunate to secure a place in the playing XI, especially with the impressive performances from players like Babar, Rizwan, and Saim,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
In the series against New Zealand, the 33-year-old accumulated 126 runs, which included a top score of 50, at an average of 25.20 and a strike-rate of 165.78.
Zaman’s next assignment will be the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which gets underway on February 17.
PSL 9 will be held from February 17 to March 18 in four cities – Lahore, Multan, Karachi and Rawalpindi.
