Australia opening batsman Usman Khawaja said Pakistan are lucky to have “such a valuable bowler” like Shaheen Shah Afridi as he can change the outcome of matches single-handedly.
The left-arm seamer is Pakistan’s pace spearhead in all three formats and has a knack of picking up early wickets with the new ball.
Recently, he featured in the three-match Test series against Australia and took eight wickets in two games at an average of 41.62.
Following this, he made his debut as T20I captain in Pakistan’s 4-1 loss to New Zealand and claimed nine wickets at an average of 19.22 and an economy rate of 8.94.
“He [Shaheen] is such a valuable bowler to Pakistan,” Khawaja was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Afridi will now captain the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which starts on February 17.
