Renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle firmly believes Shan Masood can be a “good captain” even though he only saw him leading the side in three Test matches against Australia.

Masood replaced Babar Azam as Test skipper after the latter opted to resign from the leadership role in all three formats following Pakistan’s dismal performance in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.

The 34-year-old’s debut series as captain ended on a sour note as the men in green were whitewashed 3-0 by Australia.

Despite this, Bhogle saw a lot of encouraging signs from the 34-year-old and believes he will go from strength to strength in the future.

“I think in this time he can be a good captain even though I have seen only [three] matches, maybe it would be a bit early to see this but I liked what I saw,” he told Cricwick.

After the Australia series, Pakistan faced New Zealand in a five-match T20I series and ended up being pummelled 4-1.

Masood will now captain the Karachi Kings in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which will be played from February 17 to March 18 in four cities – Lahore, Multan, Karachi and Rawalpindi.

Karachi Kings Squad for PSL 9: Shan Masood (captain), James Vince, Hasan Ali, Shoaib Malik, Tabraiz Shamsi, Mir Hamza, Muhammad Akhlaq, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Kieron Pollard (partially available), Zahid Mehmood, Daniel Sams, Mohammad Nawaz, Tim Seifert (reserved), Mohammad Amir Khan, Anwar Ali, Arafat Minhas, Sirajuddin, Saad Baig, Jamie Overton, Leus Du Plooy, Mohammad Rohid
