Pakistan chief selector Wahab Riaz revealed that he has received complaints about fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani’s attitude and poor effort when training.

Dahani shot to fame during the 2022 Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he took 17 wickets in 11 matches for the Multan Sultans at an average of 19.76 and an economy rate of 9.33.

He subsequently went on to play two ODIs and 11 T20Is for Pakistan, claiming one and eight wickets respectively.

The 25-year-old hasn’t represented his country since October 2022 and his chances of being selected seem to have been dented following reports of his “reluctance to bowl in [the] practice nets” and attempts to “avoid putting in the necessary hard work on some occasions.”

Dahani was recently in action for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in the President’s Trophy, where he picked up 16 wickets in three games, which included two five-wicket hauls, at an average of 17.81.

Even though he has been in good form, Wahab expressed his disappointment towards the complaints he has received about the Larkana native.

“We have received feedback regarding Dahani’s attitude. There have been complaints that he showed reluctance to bowl in [the] practice nets and attempted to avoid putting in the necessary hard work on some occasions,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Dahani was not selected for Pakistan’s recent three-match Test series against Australia or the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which the men in green lost 3-0 and 4-1 respectively.

He is now set to play for the Sultans in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which gets underway on February 17.
