Pakistan captain Babar Azam said he “slightly offended” legendary speedster Shoaib Akhtar when he was young.

During an Under-15 camp, Azam got to face Akhtar in the nets and drove him despite being told by the Rawalpindi Express to defend the ball.

Akhtar represented Pakistan in 46 Tests, where he took 178 wickets at an average of 25.69.

He also featured in 163 ODIs and claimed 247 wickets at an average of 24.97.

As for his T20 International career, the 46-year-old picked up 19 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 22.73.

He still holds the record for the quickest delivery in international cricket, which was clocked at 161.3 kph (100.2 mph) during Pakistan’s match against England in the 2003 World Cup.

“He got slightly offended,” Azam was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Azam was one of Pakistan’s standout players in the T20 World Cup as he broke the record for the most runs scored by a batsman in their maiden T20 World Cup appearance.

He accumulated 303 runs in six games, which included four fifties, at an average of 60.60 and a strike-rate of 126.25.
