Pakistan chief selector Mohammad Wasim has revealed that left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz was not picked for the tour of South Africa and Pakistan since his performances have not been as good as they used to be.

Wahab last played for Pakistan during their tour of New Zealand in December last year.

Most recently, the 35-year-old was participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) before it was postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Wahab was in excellent form in the tournament as in the four games he played for the Peshawar Zalmi, he took eight wickets at an average of 19 and an economy rate of 9.50.

Despite this, it wasn’t enough to earn him a spot in the Pakistan team.

“Wahab Riaz’s level of performances are not the same as the past,” Wasim was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan will play three ODIs and four T20 Internationals against South Africa before heading to Zimbabwe for two Tests and three T20 Internationals.

Pakistan will depart for South Africa on March 26 and the tour will commence on April 2 and conclude on April 16. The ODI series will be played first.

The men in green will then head to Zimbabwe on April 17, but the dates for the matches have yet to be confirmed.

However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) noted that the national team will travel back to Lahore from Bulawayo on May 12.
