Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq revealed that he has been been really impressed with Test captain Azhar Ali.
Azhar came under immense criticism during the recent Test series against England for his captaincy and his poor form with the bat.
While questions continue to remain about his captaincy, he silenced those who lambasted him for his batting by scoring a sensational century in the third Test.
Azhar scored a magnificent 141 not out, which came off 272 balls and included 21 boundaries.
“Our captain Azhar Ali deserves a lot of credit for the way he fought in the final Test. He was under a lot of pressure but he showed great character and mental strength. That innings saved the game for us. Any batsman scoring a hundred is always special but that innings was extra special because Azhar had worked so hard,” Misbah wrote in a blog for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“Finally, every single ball thrown to him, everything we did together had paid off.”
