West Indies opener Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 109 to lead his side to a comfortable five-wicket win over Afghanistan in the third ODI in Lucknow.

Opting to bowl first, the West Indies struck early as Afghanistan debutant Ibrahim Zadran was trapped lbw off the bowling of Alzarri Joseph for two runs.

Rahmat Shah fell for 10 runs, while Ikram Alikhil didn’t fare any better as he was clean bowled by Keemo Paul for nine runs.

Hazratullah Zazai managed to score a 59-ball 50, which included seven boundaries and two sixes, before he was sent packing by Paul.

Najibullah Zadran mustered 30 runs before falling to Roston Chase, while Asghar Afghan and Mohammad Nabi stabilised the innings with a 127-run partnership, during which Asghar surpassed his fifty.

He was eventually dismissed for an 85-ball 86, which included three boundaries and six sixes.

With Nabi going on to score an unbeaten 50, which came off 66 deliveries and included three boundaries and a six, Afghanistan finished on 249/7.

Paul was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Joseph snapped up two, and Chase and Romario Shepherd chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 250 to win, the West Indies got off to a poor start as Mujeeb Ur Rahman removed Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer in the same over.

Hope and debutant Brandon King made up for it with a 64-run partnership before King was clean bowled by Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan.

Hope and Pooran kept the runs flowing with a 51-run stand before Pooran was sent packing by Sharafuddin Ashraf for 21.

After adding 63 runs to the partnership with Hope, West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard was removed by Nabi for 32.

Hope and Chase finished things off with an unbeaten 71-run stand, during which Hope registered his hundred.

Hope finished on 109, which came off 145 balls and included eight boundaries and three sixes, while Chase remained undefeated on a 32-ball 42, which included three boundaries.

Mujeeb was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Sharafuddin, Rashid and Nabi claimed one wicket each.

Hope was named Man of the Match.
