Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has confirmed that former captain Salman Butt is on his radar and has the potential to get back into the national team.

Salman, who hasn’t played for Pakistan since he was banned for five years for his involvement in a spot-fixing scandal back in 2010, has been in excellent form in domestic cricket over the past few years.

Just last month, the 35-year-old scored 237 for Central Punjab against Balochistan in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Misbah noted that he is aware of Salman’s performances, and added that if any of the batsmen in the national team fail to live up to expectations, he could be brought in as a replacement.

“Shan Masood has performed well recently, Imam has done well in domestic [cricket] recently and Abid (Ali) also made 250 so those players who are performing in domestic cricket and also have performances at the international level are being preferred,” Misbah was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “Salman Butt is also there, once one of these players goes out of contention, then he can be considered.”
