Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal believes that former captain Misbah-ul-Haq should become the national team’s head coach.
Misbah has applied for the role, which was made vacant when Mickey Arthur’s contract was not extended after the World Cup ended.
Akmal feels that Misbah has the ability to turn the national team’s fortunes around, and added that a lot of players will benefit under his guidance.
“This would be very beneficial for the players. I have played a lot of departmental cricket with him. When I started department cricket, my role models were Misbah and Hafeez. They were leading the side [at] that time,” he told cricketpakistan.com.pk. “They led very well and we won various trophies under them for SNGPL. My best wishes are with Misbah to become the new head coach. I am hopeful that he will play a good role in the Pakistan team.”
