Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has admitted that he wants to captain the national team in limited overs cricket.
There has been a lot of speculation over whether Sarfraz Ahmed will continue on as captain, especially after the men in green narrowly missed out on qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals.
Some reports indicate that he will be stripped of the captaincy completely, while others state that he will lead Pakistan in fewer formats.
However, while Imad has a desire to become captain, he stressed that the final decision lies with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“As a young cricketer, I have always wanted to play for Pakistan and being offered [the] captaincy would be an honour for me,” Imad told The Cricket Paper as quoted by PakPassion. “However, this is something for the PCB to decide and I would never go to them and ask for this position.
“To be clear, I will be happy to serve under any player that the PCB offers the captaincy to as all I am interested in is serving my country. My job is to play cricket and if I am given the responsibility to captain the side, it would be great as I have never backed down from a challenge, but if not, then just being a member of the team will be an honour in itself.”
