Former Pakistan batsman Mohammad Wasim believes that if ex-captain Misbah-ul-Haq were to be appointed as chief selector and the national team’s head coach, he will need to show some authority.
Wasim’s comments come amid rumours that Misbah could fill both positions, which were previously occupied by Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mickey Arthur.
However, Wasim noted that Misbah never showed any type of authority when he was captain, and added that this needs to change if he were to be named chief selector and head coach.
“Misbah is a simple and honest guy and was a very successful captain. He never showed the type of authority which was needed when he was captain of the national team but he should come out strong as a coach and chief selector, if given the role,” Wasim was quoted as saying by cricketpakistan.com.pk.
“He knows all the players personally and has been in touch with them but he needs to show his authority. Misbah had also been featuring in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), therefore he has all the information about the players.”
Misbah has been appointed as the ‘camp commandant’ for the upcoming 17-day conditioning camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. A total of 20 players will take part in the camp, which will run from August 22 to September 7.
