Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja believes that pace bowler Mohammad Hasnain should have been awarded a central contract.
Pakistan reduced the number of players awarded contracts from 33 to 19, but Hasnain was not among those who were given a contract for the 2019/2020 season.
Given that Pakistan has invested a lot of faith in Hasnain, Ramiz questioned why the board didn’t give the 19-year-old a contract.
Hasnain has represented Pakistan in five ODIs, where he has taken five wickets at an average of 60.60.
He has also featured in one Twenty20 International, but failed to take a wicket in that match.
Hasnain was also included in Pakistan’s World Cup squad, but didn’t play a single game during the recently concluded tournament.
“Pakistan has decided that it wants to move in a new direction based on the performance of some young players, but if we talk about young players, then I am surprised that Mohammad Hasnain didn’t get [a] contract because he was part of Pakistan’s World Cup squad,” Ramiz was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.
“I still believe that Hasnain should become the 20th player to be awarded a central contract.”
