Kamran Akmal: “This culture of nepotism must be tackled with an iron hand”

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has claimed that nepotism is rife when it comes to the national team.

Akmal pointed out that there are many players on the domestic circuit who have been performing well over the past couple of years, but continue to be snubbed.

Some of these players include Akmal, batsman Fawad Alam, former captain Salman Butt and pace bowler Mohammad Asif.

“If someone is performing on a consistent basis, he should be given his due right, unlike [in the] past when top performers in domestic cricket had to sit out and ordinary performers were given countless chances,” Akmal told The Nation. “This culture of nepotism must be tackled with an iron hand. I am confident that PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) chairman Ehsan Mani and managing director Wasim Khan will take very serious notice of the injustice done to the players in the past.

“Pakistan is blessed with great talent, but the rights of deserving players [have been] denied, which [has] resulted in huge frustration among the top class players, who could be part of any international team, but they [are] denied [the chance] to represent their country.”
