Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar believes that outgoing chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq is determined to become the national team’s head coach.

Akhtar feels that this is the reason why Inzamam has decided to step down as chief selector at the end of the month.

With reports indicating that Mickey Arthur will be sacked as head coach following Pakistan’s failure to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals, Akhtar pointed out that Inzamam will likely put his name forward as a potential successor.

“Inzamam intends to become the next coach of Pakistan cricket, that’s why he has resigned,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.
