Pakistan left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir believes that there were three main reasons why the national team failed to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals.
Tanvir pointed out that mistakes were made in regards to the squad selected, and added that the second mistake was that the right players weren’t included in the playing XI.
As for the final reason, Tanvir pointed to Pakistan’s dismal start to the tournament as they lost three of their first five games.
While they did go on to win their last four games against South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, it wasn’t enough to secure them a spot in the semi-finals as New Zealand edged them out for the final spot since they had a superior net run rate.
“I admit that Pakistan made mistakes in terms of squad selection and playing XI; which was the reason behind why we could not make it to the knockout stage of the event,” Tanvir told cricketpakistan.com.pk. “We did not start the tournament well as we lost three out of the first five matches and one match was washed out. In order to do well in such a tournament, you need to start on a high.”
