Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi heaped praise on batsmen Babar Azam and Haris Sohail for their performance against New Zealand in the World Cup on Wednesday.

Azam was named Man of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 101, which came off 127 balls and included 11 boundaries.

He was well supported by Haris, who scored a 76-ball 68, which included five boundaries and two sixes.

Thanks to their efforts with the bat, Pakistan beat New Zealand, who were undefeated coming into the match, by six wickets and kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive.

“Brilliant batting by Babar Azam and Haris Sohail, special win for Pakistan. Babar’s batting through the innings has made all the difference. The talent of Haris Sohail, his shot making is pure class. Pakistan are back in this World cup!” Afridi said on Twitter.

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against Afghanistan at Headingley on Saturday.

If they beat Afghanistan, Pakistan will then have to take down Bangladesh at Lord’s on July 5 in order to have any chance of reaching the last four.

However, even if they defeat Afghanistan and Bangladesh, it might not be enough as they will have to rely on the results of other matches.
