Former England captain Michael Vaughan has admitted that he was highly impressed with the way in which Pakistan chased down their target of 238 against New Zealand on Wednesday.

Batsman Babar Azam, who was named Man of the Match, led the way with an unbeaten 101, which came off 127 balls and included 11 boundaries.

He was well supported by Haris Sohail, who struck a 76-ball 68, which included five boundaries and two sixes.

Pakistan ended up winning the match by six wickets in the last over and thus kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive.

As for New Zealand, it was their first loss in the tournament.

“This is what you call a proper run chase on a tricky wicket. Outstanding application and mentality from Pakistan! The other Pakistan are starting to look very, very dangerous. What an atmosphere as well!” Vaughan said on Twitter.

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against Afghanistan at Headingley on Saturday.

If they beat Afghanistan, Pakistan will then have to take down Bangladesh at Lord’s on July 5 in order to have any chance of reaching the last four.

However, even if they defeat Afghanistan and Bangladesh, it might not be enough as they will have to rely on the results of other matches.
