Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Waqar Younis believes that left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir is back to his very best.

Waqar’s comments come after Amir took two wickets in the national team’s World Cup win over South Africa on Sunday.

With Amir dismissing Proteas opener Hashim Amla and captain Faf du Plessis for two and 63 respectively, he became the joint-highest wicket-taker in the World Cup with 15 victims at an average of 14.60.

Waqar is delighted Amir has made his presence felt at the tournament, especially since between the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in 2017 and prior to the start of the World Cup, he had taken five wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 92.60.

“We’ve also started to get the old Mohammad Amir back, where he’s got that mojo of swinging the ball back into the right-hander,” Waqar wrote in his column for the International Cricket Council as quoted by The News International.

“It’s not swinging massively, but the line is right and that’s his strength.”

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against New Zealand at Edgbaston on Wednesday.
