Former India opener Virender Sehwag has revealed that Sarfraz Ahmed has “increased Pakistan’s percentage of winning” ever since he became captain.
Sehwag’s praise for Sarfraz comes in the midst of a difficult World Cup campaign for Pakistan as they have only won one of the five games they have played thus far.
As a result, their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals are slim at best.
“Ever since he has started his captaincy he has indeed increased Pakistan’s percentage of winning,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by The Nation. “But we need to realize that when the team is playing well then everyone compliments the captain, but when they’re not playing well, [the debate on captaincy begins].”
Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.
