Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has dismissed speculation of groups forming within the national team.

Hafeez’s comments come after it was reported that captain Sarfraz Ahmed accused spinner Imad Wasim of forming a small group with three other players in order to replace him as captain.

It is believed that the three other players are left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz, opener Imam-ul-Haq and batsman Babar Azam.

It was also reported that veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik supported the group.

However, Hafeez reiterated that the allegations are all false and questioned why such reports only emerge when Pakistan are struggling.

The men in green are in the midst of a horrendous World Cup campaign, where they have only won one of the five games they have played.

“Whenever we lose, these stories of groupings start. We beat England, there were no stories of groupings, we lose to India and these stories of groupings in the squad start. We are one, we are united, we are all Pakistanis, we all care about each other,” Hafeez was quoted as saying by Saj Sadiq on Twitter.

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.
