Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has made it clear that the entire side and coaching staff has to take responsibility for the team’s dismal World Cup campaign thus far.
Pakistan have only won one of their five World Cup games so far, with their most recent loss coming against arch-rivals India last Sunday.
As a result of their abysmal World Cup record, Pakistan’s hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals are slim at best.
Despite this, Hafeez insisted that it wouldn’t be fair to single out one particular player and blame them for the men in green’s horrendous showing at the tournament.
“We haven’t played well and the responsibility for that is with all the players and support staff,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “When we all take responsibility and be accountable then the Pakistan team will move forward.
“Obviously seeing ourselves at the bottom of the table gives us a lot of pain. If you look at the history of Pakistan teams, we have always come up after being down.
“I have full trust in my teammates that we will play our best game and avail ourselves of whatever opportunity we get.”
Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.
