Wasim Akram: “I don’t want to disappoint people, but I don’t see any chance for the Pakistan team in the tournament now”

Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram has admitted that the national team have no chance of making to the semi-finals, let along winning the World Cup.

Akram’s brutally honest admission comes after the men in green lost to arch-rivals India by 89 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in their World Cup clash on Sunday.

Pakistan have now won just one of their five World Cup games so far and only have four group stage matches remaining.

With the odds stacked against them, Akram conceded that he sees Pakistan making an early exit from the showpiece event.

“When you’ve not only [got] to win all your games but also hope for other results to be in your favor then things really go beyond your control,” Akram told Geo.tv. “I don’t want to disappoint people, but I don’t see any chance for the Pakistan team in the tournament now.”

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.
