Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram has warned the national team not to underestimate Sri Lanka in their World Cup match on Friday.

Pakistan will be coming into the match on a high as they defeated hosts England, who are considered one of the favourites to win the World Cup, by 14 runs in Nottingham on Monday.

However, Sri Lanka will also be confident coming into the game as they beat Afghanistan by 34 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in their last match.

With that in mind, Akram admitted that the men in green cannot afford to let their guard down against Sri Lanka.

“I must say that don’t take Sri Lanka easy. They’ve just won a close match. They have some individual match winners. Every game is important,” he said on Geo’s program Swing Ka Sultan. “I hope Pakistan [don’t] get relaxed. The way they won the last game, it must have boosted their confidence. I just don’t want [them] to be overexcited and go with controlled aggression.”
