Zaheer Abbas: “I would tell them to play aggressive cricket from the word go”

Legendary Pakistan batsman Zaheer Abbas has advised the national team to “play aggressive cricket from the word go” in their World Cup match against Sri Lanka on Friday.

He also admitted that the men in green will have to lift their performance in the field as they can’t afford to drop catches.

Pakistan will be coming into the match on a high as they defeated hosts England, who are considered one of the favourites to win the World Cup, by 14 runs in Nottingham on Monday.

However, Sri Lanka will also be confident coming into the game as they beat Afghanistan by 34 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in their last match.

“I would tell them to play aggressive cricket from the word go,” Abbas told The News International. “Sri Lanka are low on confidence and our team must exploit that. They must go on the attack. Their batting line-up looks brittle and we must go after their batsmen.

“The other is that we have to give a better display in the outfield. You can win matches by taking catches.”
