Pakistan left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz has admitted that the national team will have to be wary of India pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah when their sides clash in their highly-anticipated World Cup match on June 16.
Pakistan will be looking to snap their winless streak against their arch-rivals as India have triumphed in all six of their World Cup meetings to date.
However, Pakistan can take confidence from the fact that they demolished India by 180 runs in the Champions Trophy final in 2017.
But, Wahab conceded that Bumrah should be seen as a major threat as he has been in superb form for quite a while.
In India’s World Cup opener against South Africa on Wednesday, Bumrah dismissed openers Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock en route to finishing with figures of 2-35 off his 10 overs.
India went on to win the match by six wickets.
“Bumrah has been doing well,” Wahab was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “Obviously, he has played just one game (in this World Cup) but has been doing well in the recent past. If he is rated to be the best bowler in this event then he will have more pressure of that.
“Bowlers are all good but whoever does well on the day will be rated as the best.”
Pakistan’s next World Cup game will be against Sri Lanka in Bristol on Friday.
